In this photo I took a precise photo of girl that has caught my attention on modernism. I wanted to interpret the photography style of Paul Strand while adapting my own process into this portrait. Modernism nowadays is about shaggier hair, simple clothing, but also expressing the character through different poses that seem unique. Just as how Paul Strand wants his subjects to be surrounded by the surroundings they live in; I’ve also implemented this method into my portrait to capture their self. With the touches, I dilated the color of the portrait into black and white to match the aesthetic of the old modernism and the present modernism. The lighting was also touched so that the subjects’ shadow could “pop-out”.

As to why I chose Paul Strand as my Photographer reference, it is because the way how he interprets and creates his work. From wanting to create mysterious portraits into socially getting close with his portrait subject in order to capture the full photo of the person and their life.
