Fishing for Arctic Char near Cape Dorset, Baffin Island (2)
This was a very good spot for arctic char fishing. The arctic char looks like and has a life cycle similar to that of salmon. Like salmon, in August it goes up the rivers to spawn. At this particular spot, the Inuit built rock piles that form pools in which the fish are temporarily trapped and where it is relatively easy to catch them. In fact, they can be caught by hand as they jump the rock barriers in their attempt to get from one pool to the next one upstream.
