Sego Canyon

Along the short rail line leading to Sego Ghost Town that cross and re-cross the small arroyo that meanders from one side of narrow Sego canyon in the five miles to the mine sight. The Ballard & Thompson Railroad, a spur from the Denver and Rio Grande Western was built by the founders of Sego Ghost Town to transport the coal and crossed the arroyo 13 times. It was the cost of maintaining these trestles that caused the final demise of Sego Ghost Town (aka Ballard and Nelsen) sometime in the early 1950's.
