Avalanche Zone

Between Flat Creek and Illecillewaet, the rugged Illecillewaet River valley gets quite narrow and steep with both the railway and the highway passing through active avalanche zones, wedged between the Fortitude and Fidelity Mountains.

 

Here an eastbound grainer emerges from the CPR's snowshed-tunnel combination known as the Laurie Sheds while the Lanark Snowshed, one of four over the Trans Canada here, is visible in the upper right portion of the frame.
