Today's panoply of railroading goodness comes to us from Tacoma, Washington in September, 1973.
The unknown photographer is standing on the 11th street overpass shooting slides southeast towards Tideflats Yard. Behind him/her is the end of the Pacific Extension and the waters of Tacoma Bay. Come 1974 the electrification sections would be abandoned, followed by the entire extension in 1980. Such a waste.
Eventually, the carcass processing and paper mill disappeared - taking the "Tacoma Aroma" with them. The UP and BNSF currently handle traffic on this peninsula.
Meanwhile, Mt. Rainier stands silent vigil over the comings and goings of Man.
