Breathing Mountain — Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane 渋峠からの草津白根山
Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane, an active volcano, seen from the highest point on Japan’s national highway network at Shibu Pass along the Kusatsu-Shirane Route, at an elevation of 2,172 m (7,126 ft).
Near the summit lies Yugama (literally “hot-water cauldron”), a beautiful emerald-green crater lake, but unfortunately the area has remained off-limits since the 2018 eruption.
The surrounding area is also home to some of Japan’s renowned hot spring resorts, including Kusatsu and Manza Onsen, as well as famous ski areas such as Shiga Kogen.

山頂にはエメラルドグリーンの美しい火口湖「湯釜」がありますが、残念ながら2018年の大規模噴火以来、立ち入り禁止が続いています。
周辺には草津や万座など有数の温泉地や、志賀高原などの有名スキー場が点在しています。
