Unveiled in 1997. In 1996, the municipality of Tiel commissioned Cor Litjes to design a work of art that would be placed on a spot along the Wetland Passewaaij nature reserve that was created that year. Cor Litjens designed the work of art “Houses on the Dike” for this purpose.

With “Houses on the Dike”, Cor Litjens wanted to pay tribute to the housing on the dike. With this work of art, he also wanted to make a plea for maintaining the characteristic dike buildings, even if the dikes are reinforced. The buildings in “Houses on the Dike” are casts of souvenirs that Cor Litjens has collected over the years.

Ophemertsedijk/Waalbandijk, Tiel, rand Wetland Passewaaij

Onthuld in 1997. In 1996 heeft de gemeente Tiel aan Cor Litjes opgedragen een kunstwerk te ontwerpen dat geplaatst zou worden op een plek langs het in dat jaar aangelegde natuurgebied Wetland Passewaaij. Cor Litjens heeft hiervoor het kunstwerk “Huizen op de dijk” ontworpen.

Met “Huizen op de dijk” heeft Cor Litjens een ode willen brengen aan de bewoning op de dijk. Met dit kunstwerk heeft hij ook een pleidooi willen houden voor het handhaven van de karakteristieke dijkbebouwing, ook als de dijken worden verzwaard.De gebouwen in “Huizen op de dijk” zijn afgietsels van souvenirs die Cor Litjens in de loop der jaren heeft verzameld.
