North Gawber 16 Feb 68
Works number 3788, NCB Monckton No.1
Built in 1953 for the NCB, it started life at Monckton Colliery near Barnsley. In 1963 the loco was converted to underfeed stoker and gas producer system, the most obvious sign being the chimney and the vent disc on the smokebox. In 1967, the loco was transferred to North Gawber, three miles north of Barnsley.
In 1980 it moved into preservation with the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.
In the late eighties it was taken out of service with leaking tubes and stored until 1997. Work was slowly undertaken and the loco returned to service in 2002, only to be taken out of service again. It was found that the loco required a new firebox, so sadly the loco is "stored", pending funds and volunteer labour.
