Today's dip into the past features Southern Pacific 1UEICC 12 on 9/12/1993. UEICC was a short lived train with one purpose..... helping to rebuild Union Electric's stock pile of coal at Labadie, MO after the brutal flooding in the summer of 1993. The surplus of coal dwindled down during the summer because both of their supply routes were severed. In the fall of that year, they added some Southern Illinois coal to the mix to build the pile back up. This is one of those trains, which originated on the IC at a mine I can't recall, hence the five IC GP40s behind the SP. I saw this train only three times, and every time it had SP 5112 on the lead. While this would be a welcome leader today, I was disappointed then that the consist was not solid IC.
This is the empty sitting at Warson Road getting ready to return to Illinois. One neat thing about this train was the appearance of the old red and yellow KMCX hoppers, which had been gone from UE trains on this line for a couple years already.
