Benton County program helps farmers reduce wildlife conflicts

Benton County Public Works Environmental Project Coordinator Sheanna Steingass visited the hobby farm of Brooke Davis to highlight how the Agricultural and Wildlife Protection Program (AWPP) is helping Benton County farmers protect livestock while living alongside wildlife.

Davis used an AWPP reimbursable grant to build a secure poultry coop and enclosed run that protects her chickens and ducks from predators using nonlethal methods. Located near the Dunn Forest, her farm is home to horses, poultry, goats and other animals, making wildlife coexistence an important part of daily life.

The AWPP provides grants, technical assistance and educational resources to farms of all sizes, helping producers implement practical, nonlethal wildlife deterrents that protect livestock, crops and property while supporting wildlife conservation. The program is open to agricultural operations throughout Benton County. Learn more at pw.bentoncountyor.gov/awpp/.
