Making the Grade
CSX CW44AC number 524, still in 1990s-vintage YN2 garb, charges uphill at NE Bay Minette with manifest train M601. This hill, which crests a little shy of a mile ahead in downtown Bay Minette, is the last hill southbound trains must face on the M&M Sub. Past the south end of Bay Minette siding, the railroad begins a gentle but long descent to sea level and crosses the swampy delta north of Mobile Bay before entering Sibert Yard, adjacent to the Alabama State Docks.
