Kelso California Depot panorama 1
"Reckon I'll head out to Kelso," I said to the Desert Iguana on my front step. I figured on a thirty minute shoot.
Arriving, I set the tripod on the depot lawn. A bat decided to check and see if I was food. They've got big bats out here. (I like big bats and I cannot lie...) Like maybe Grackle sized. Small ones, too. I'm not sure what species. Apparently I smell bad because it left immediately.
There were no trains tonight. It was about 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) and perfectly still. It was silent except for an air conditioner compressor cycling on and off a block or two to the south. I could hear rodents. The stars were amazing as were the anti-collision lights on passing planes. A meteor sped toward Earth in the vector of Wild Wash. (It's tough to tell how far away they are.)
In the middle of the start, the camera battery died. I snapped number two into the camera. The whole scene was lit by two streetlights about a quarter mile to the south (behind the camera). So it took some very long exposures. I used the in-camera noise reduction and don't know what that did for me, if anything. Three hours later I had these two panoramas.
Journalism grade image.
