St Cloud Facilities
Before the creation of Burlington Northern, St Cloud MN was a major Great Northern hub. Routes went north to Fargo, south to Minneapolis, east to Brook Park and west to Willmar. In 1966, there were three passenger trains each way per day, at least three through freights and several locals. Throughout the 1980's, BN disposed of everything. On a happy day in January, 1976, the roundhouse has been recently removed and the GN St Cloud Facilities contained an unusual amount of green. The 1887 was a former NP GP9. The 1401 and 1416 were virtually new, rebuilt at West Burlington during 1974 and 1975, the BN called them GP7U's or GP10's with 1800 HP, but among the troops, they were known as CLRP's, from Capital Locomotive Rebuild Program. 1401 was former GN 623 and 1416 was GN 616.
The BN CLRP's survived to work for the BNSF.
