With this assignment, I chose to replicate the work of Stephen Shore. The reason why his work has caught my attention is that I’ve always been a fan of photography that captures the world in its natural setting. In Stephen Shore’s case, he tends to photograph things that can be seen in the country pretty often which gives the picture a boring or obvious look. But the angle and the passiveness in the pictures are really the best part. Capturing people just doing normal everyday things in their normal setting is truly amazing. Although we see it every day, we don't stop and appreciate the natural working world around us and tend to overlook these things. Stephen Shore brings them to life as not only does he capture uncommon places in his photographs, but these things can be rare to the normal eye, as we never just stop and take visual images in person. I chose to photograph China town as it's in a busy area that captures things you don't see everywhere since Chinatowns are usually in every city but in exclusive spots. I think what makes the picture work is that there's always a focus in Stephen Shores' work as there would usually be a bright neon light sign or a car included. My photograph's main attention was the Chinese hanging lanterns and the two cars, although Stephen Shore tended to photograph the back of cars, I added my own take and took photographs of the front of vehicles. Overall, I think if Stephen Shore was still continuing his road trips through the US and producing pictures such as he did, he would have definitely captured a picture relating to this.
