Deception Pass
The west end of Deception Pass in Washington
Deception Pass separates Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island. Most of the water in Skagit Bay empties through the Pass during tidal exchange. The currents can be very strong and you often see current eddies. The San Juan Islands can be seen in the gap between Deception Island on the left and Rosario Island by the tree. The first, lowest island in the gap is for sale and is owned by Paul Allen who is a co-founder of Microsoft. Vancouver Island rises above the sea fog on the extreme left horizon.
