vandalism: the art of our generation

Vandalism, it's a serious issue. No one has the right to destroy or deface your own property, yet it’s very prevalent in today's society. Buildings, cars, and bridges are the main target of it. I'd like to say all vandalism is bad but people like graffiti artists are able to make some beautiful things using bridges, buildings, cars even as their canvas.

Like in this image, they have used this originally blank wall to paint a memorial for “DJV” you can see as the old spray paint wears off members of this community even go back to repaint it, its been ten years since “DJV” died and yet they still keep the paint fresh to keep the memory of him going.

Graffiti artists have an ability to find beauty in otherwise desolate places that I will never understand. In this image we have this artist that goes by “FORTH.” He's chosen an interesting colour pallet and an interesting location. I assume the reason they choose to paint in such dark and hidden places is because it illegal and if it's harder to see them, then they get more time to paint.

This is a photo of the inside of one of the buildings in camp 30, all of it every surface is covered in graffiti. It's fascinating that from the outside looking in you can't see anything, no graffiti, only darkness but once you enter and turn a flashlight on you see all that's been hidden from the outside world, a secret art gallery.

Now stickers are kind of a gateway drug into graffiti. People start off plastering stickers everywhere and soon they are vandalising signs and buildings. I have to respect the font that all of these graffiti artists create themselves.Realistically they are not really doing anything wrong but I assume its a student here because i found it on my walk to school.

This is the same artist that has moved on to vandalising a green box, just like I said he's moved from stickers to actual vandalism. It's really disappointing because the majority of people that are doing this are under age and can end up getting anything from a couple of days to several years of prison.

In conclusion, vandalism is an artform that many people are getting imprisoned for, there are a few safe places for vandalism, like the front of a sticker, the inside of camp 30 buildings and under bridges by the train track and even these places aren't really that safe in fact two of them you are committing different crimes to get to the spot. This is the life of a graffiti artist.
