Firm As The Rock: Königstein
Buttercups flicker in the meadow; Königstein guards the skyline.
Dandelion clocks and buttercups freckle the grass—candle-flames at noon.
On the horizon rises Festung Königstein, an island of sandstone and legend.
From here it looks like a LEGO fort, but I know the tales:
– Bohemian raiders circled these walls.
– Swedish troops scorched the town below in 1639.
– Even Napoleon rode past in 1813.
Not once in eight centuries did the fortress surrender.
Would you have trusted those buttercups and stayed, or marched on?
