Mount Donna Buang the closet place in Melbourne to go play in the snow
A beautiful 2 hour run from Warburton to Mount Donna Buang summit/ return on the walking trail yesterday. The trail begins in scenic lush green surroundings, slippery under foot with hidden rocks, tree roots and stringy bark that will snatch your feet from under you. The trail is steep and as my legs start to get heavy towards the summit I find myself here. The path lined with white. The air is crisp and snow blows in sideways by the howling wind, most melting before it reaches the forest floor. The canopy of trees is filled with mist as I crest the top and there’s a big smile on my face and I think to myself “geez mate it might have been easier to drive up” 😅. All that’s left to climb is the tower and once at the top I look out at the winter wonderland landscape below. Families and friends spread out across the landscape playing and tobogganing down the slopes in the snow that had fallen earlier. How beautiful it is. Snow on Mount Donna!
No time to stay. The car is parked at Warburton and darkness is descending.
