The fabulous world of EV uptake

Understanding which EVs are taken up by specific cells (e.g. tumour cells) and not by others (e.g. healthy cells) or the specific EV uptake mechanisms employed by the target cell (e.g. endocytosis, fusion, etc) is the basis to develop targeted EV therapeutic interventions. EV uptake, however, seems to be heterogeneous, just like the composition and origin of EVs; often reflects the variability in labelling methods. This image is the metamorphosis of my ‘failed’ EV uptake experiments into SciArt. But also, it is a reminder to all of us, and especially those who struggle to write that thesis/ paper/ grant, those whose experiment failed, and those who lost their motivation, that research can be fun and creative! A little play around sometimes can result to amazing ideas… and sometimes to a butterfly made of high-resolution EV uptake images processed using freely available software! Enjoy your science!
