The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is an independent authority in the UK responsible for upholding information rights in the public interest promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. They work to protect the public by informing organisations informing the public and carrying out enforcement when necessary. The ICO enables organisations to comply with their data protection obligations and encourage organizations to be open and honest with the people whose data they process. The ICO helps to promote trust and consumer confidence in the handling of their data and ensure that businesses are aware of their data sharing obligations. They are also responsible for the UK’s data protection laws providing guidance to those organizations who process information and investigate complaints made by individuals.
