With the Allied bombing campaign destroying many aircraft factories across Germany, production of the Me262 was moved out of cities and into surrounding woodland.
Aircraft parts were manufactured in small workshops within the area, then finally assembled at improvised assembly workshops such as the Burgau/Scheppacher Waldwerk Kuno AG Plant I. The aircraft would then use the nearby highway to takeoff. Assembly of the Me.262 was carried out by workers of a nearby slave labor camp near the town of Burgau.
