Exhausted Soldiers
German Feldwebel (Sergeant), Leutnant (2nd lieutenant) and Schütze (Rifleman) of '15. Armee' (15th Army) returning after a long march and training exercise. The, possibly annoyed, Leutant has been sprayed with water by a playful local. (Lille-area, France, Oct 1941).
The 15th Army was in charge of occupation and defensive duties in the Pas de Calais area which included southwest of the Netherlands from January 1941 to June 1944. The army consisted of two corps, the 'LXVII Armeekorps' (67th Army Corps) and the 'LXXXVIII Armeekorps' (88th Army Corps) each with several infantry divisions.
