Estimated to be 15 or 16 years old (average life expectancy for jaguars in the Pantanal is 11-12 years), Patricia is one of the most famous and widely documented wild jaguars in Brazil's Pantanal region. Roaming the Cuiabá River and its tributaries in the Porto Jofre area, she is celebrated as a master hunter and the "Grande Dame" of the northern Pantanal. She is mother to Medrosa and grandmother to Marcela and Pantaneiro, both children of Medrosa.
Here she is stopping for an evening drink, accompanied by her son, Makala, now a year old, sired by Thomas. Cubs typically stay with their mothers until 18-24 months old.
It was quite the a thrill to see such a celebrated and venerated lady. Despite having lost an eye to glaucoma, she is still as regal and majestic as ever.
