La Belle Dame Sans Realite
Artist Statement: Dreams are a reflection of our reality, similar to how our art is a reflection of the interworkings of our minds. I used an oak tree to represent the stability that is ourselves, our roots in the waking world, and the spreading branches that reach far beyond ourselves. I think that a lot of us use dreams as a form of escapism. A fantastical world with endless possibilities is tempting, but even our wildest dreams are an echo of the real world. Whether it be fairies and butterflies or mushrooms and worms, the depths of our minds have funny ways of showing us what we are really thinking, and I think that it is an important exercise in self-awareness to be able to listen to what you're trying to tell yourself.
