Rumbling through Sunshine north and the spot where I watched the Freight Australia run 'Apex' some 20 years ago, I wouldn't have thought I would see the same sight in 2026 but with G526 on lease to QUBE, this can once again be reality.
This scene has changed since then with a broad gauge crossover built to access the McConnell Dowell compound built on the site of the former ATN sidings The third track on the left to formerly access the Bluescope steel facility on St Albans road was also cut and ripped up when the McConnell Dowell plant was built.
With its short train of empty aggregate hoppers, G526 makes light work of the grade up towards the McIntyre Road overpass. 25/7/2026
