Rebuilt AHM model.
While browsing eBay one day I found a model of this car. I really liked the layout of the artwork so I bought the car. It was a very early rendition of this car. Everything was molded on. No wire at all. I reproduced the artwork and had it printed by Precision Design Co.
The car was completely disassembled and stripped of all paint. I weighted the car to NMRA +10% by gluing in some large BB's for weight. The tank halves were then together. The seam between the two halves were filled Tamiya white putty sanded and then wet sanded for blending. The platform railings were replaced with bronze wire. The brake wheel is from Tichy with a piece of bronze wire for the staff. The placards are from Detail Associates. The bolsters were rebuilt and I replaced the trucks with Kato 50 ton trucks. I modified the frame and used a 3D printed draft gear box with Kadee scale head short center shank coupler.
The car was first primed with Mr. Hobby Mr. Surfacer 1000 gray thinned 1:1 with Mr. Hobby Mr. Leveling Thinner. Then I shot everything with Mr. Hobby Mr. Surfacer 1500 black thinned 1:1 with Mr. Hobby Mr. Leveling Thinner. When the paint cured I gave everything a good coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss. Applied the decals and then another liberal coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss. I let the gloss cure for a couple hours and then finished the car off with a liberal coat of my custom mixed satin varnish. Two parts Tamiya XF-86 Flat Clear to one part Tamiya X-22 Clear thinned 1:1 with Mr. Hobby Mr. Leveling Thinner.
