Four 1.435m gauge Lyudinovo Locomotive Works (LTZ) TGM8E 800hp Bo-Bo diesel-hydraulic locomotives and one 1.435m gauge LTZ TGM8Ek 800hp Bo-Bo diesel-hydraulic locomotive were donated to Việt Nam by the Soviet Union and delivered in two tranches – the TGM8Ek in 1983 and the four TGM8Es in 1985-1986. They were eventually renumbered D8H-2001 to D8H-2005.
