140001 DUFFTOWN 12/9/2021
Prototype British Rail/Leyland class 140 railbus number 140001 pictured at Dufftown on the Keith and Dufftown Railway on September 12th 2021. Introduced in 1981 as a testbed for the future railbus classes 141/142/143/144 it remained in service until 1986 and survived as a 'spares donor' at Leeds Neville Hill depot until preservation in 1995. The restoration is progressing slowly at the KADR but recent work has seen all four windscreens replaced (£100 each), replacement engine purchased (£1000) and restoration of the electrical systems.
Massive thanks to the volunteers at Dufftown Station for allowing us to get a closer look at the 140 and for switching its lights on for us.
