8½ 365 Days (Year 6) #290 08/16
So...
You are wondering what I think of this movie?
8½ is considered on of the best films ever made. If I say I loved it I fear being labeled a snobby art-house pseudo-intellectual. If I say I hate it I am hopelessly shallow and superficial. So what If I say that I didn't understand it? Am I stupid or just unsophisticated?
I recently read a quote from a filmmaker that said: "Don't ever confuse movie making with art. It's a business- period". I would consider this film as a prime example of this statement. Federico Fellini made this film about a director who is forced to make a successful art film immediately following a previous hit. Fellini made this film immediately following his very successful La Dolce Vita. It is HIS story. But is it a film or art? Was it made to entertain the masses and make his backers huge profits or to be studied and critiqued?
I don't know.
If I dared to share my opinion I would be guessing what was in Fellini's head when he created this film.
