Comp 10: Misty morning, The Rosary
A favourite haunt of mine in our locality, Thorpe Hamlet, is The Rosary, the first non-denominational cemetery in the country. Founded in 1821 it is not just a repository for the dead, but a haven for wildlife, too, and, of course, a place that encourages reflection. Amongst all the headstones, though, it is the scattering of war graves, the spare cleanness of their Portland stone that catches the eye, and gives most pause for thought, the simple inscriptions ... Radio Operator/Air Gunner Died 1940 Aged 21 years ... speaking a tragic waste.
