Naming after Smee of the middle name was the influence naming after to Peter Pan novel series and the Disney series, for Captain Hook crew-mater..
Even so this guy does not have a Captain crew-mate like Hook, not really in the Fire Emblem universe.

Background story:
Johnth is a former pirate unit previous but changed to become the Black Eagle student in the academies school where Byleth and Lady Rhea residence, he became a student and a fast leaner. He is considered the official member of Black Eagle or with Serio's of Church depends of the timeline and what Byleth would make the choice for joining. It is to be said that he is on-off unit and he does involved on fighting on against Black Eagle when joining with Seiros siding with Lady Rhea, or if Byleth join on Edelgard side he would be against Church of Seiros.. He has great blood relative of his ancestory of Marth units who fought against the greatest battle doing the time of the original timeline of Fire Emblem and Gaiden /Echoes- form many century ago, he would have his previous pirate crew before he would quit being as pirate and become the helpful unit eitheir Black Eagle or Church of Seiros- that his crew mate of pirate has ancestor and descendant of Marth allies and enemy unit and Alm (Gaiden/ Echoes) who fought the many battle century ago, before his crew mater would go there own separate way - he use to have a commander in charge on the ship, not a captain and it was a other captain that use to be charged in the ship for a brief time. He would be a womanizer for flirting over 5 girls, but his favorite girlfriend would be Bernadetta - the shy and annoying student of Black Eagle as she is comic relief so as Johnth is hardly a comic relief and he is somewhat of annoying to him- it is been told that his favorite girlfriend and wishes to marry official by Benadetta or Black Eagle student female, or the other two. Johnth is your typical on-off anti heroes and he doesnt get involved as much fight unless it is Byleth job to do...
He is known to be a friend very casual and chill to Hubert and Claude, he also respect Edelgard as his idol and inspiration abit. His position is becoming a healer-helper sometime and a archer hunter.
Black Eagle-1 story scene:
Before Blyeth would take over the side of Edelgard to go against on Lady Rhea, he would fight against the Church of Seiros and all armies alike and will be helping out with Black Eagle armies to the end of the game, he also does not get involved the business of Lady Rhea antics. One for sure, as he would be siding with Black Eagle and would defeat the godess Lady Rhea- he would start fighting against the armies of Lady Rhea until the end where Rhea form herself as the dragon, he would help the people unit and classmate of Black Eagle, when Rhea is defeated: Johnth would resign on battling and stop the fighting where Black Eagle have won the war, he would retired for fighting and would go on have a plan to marry a woman and would start off a family, that the world would be over and have peace at long last, that Edelgard and Byleth are official ruler of Black Eagle.
Church of Seiros -2 story scene:
Byleth would kill Edelgard but failed to do, as she would retreated.. He Johnth and Byleth would stand on the side with Lady Rhea and join forces, well as Black Eagle student would join up and as well for Golden Deer and Blue Lion join up so to defeat Edelgard to stop the madness of her chaotic power ruling the country. Johnth Smee would think of Rhea that he didnt trust her, but he dispick himself to her as a mother figure that his real mom has death doing in battle previously where Lady Rhea and Nenemis once fought against to each other many century ago, to his on-off relationship he hardly respect Lady Rhea and he would help out armies to stop Edelgard. Byleth would slay and defeat Edelgard, that's Johnth would be disappointed that Edelgard have use all of the student of Black Eagle to use for power and dictaorship-alike, he would prefer on Lady Rhea and serve for himself to protect her until the finle of Black Eagle scenario of Sliver Snow if Byleth side with Lady Rhea- that where the final battle against of the unknown darkness and controling Lady Rhea being the dragon, after the battle was over and that Byleth save Rhea- both of them would rule over the land of the country.. As for Johnth he would be retired for fighting and decied to live in peace and calm, would be a single father for the daughter of 1 and 2, it was confirmed that there were missing childern doing the battle event on Fire Emblem Three House that they were age 4 to 10 year old who will become Johnth Smee childern, he did not plan to get marry unless he would support his allies and classmate of Black Eagle and other orgination armies unit onto the acadmies.
Emblan Empire 3- story scene:
He would hardly help Princess Veronica sometime, but he is too careless and was not no help. Since he is a stay home guard unit and he would go back to Black Eagle origination armies home area and hang around at Emblan Kingdom
