Gert Neuhaus, who has been creating murals since 1977, says: "What I paint must fit the local area—have an intrinsic connection, so to speak, to the buildings and the people." The ocean liner 'Phoenix' is one of his early murals; with it, he references the nearby Spree Canal and the Berliners' longing for water and the sea.

Gert Neuhaus, der seit 1977 Wandbilder anfertigt, sagt: "Was ich male, muß in die Gegend passen, sozusagen einen inneren Bezug zu den Häusern und den Menschen haben." Der Überseedampfer 'Phoenix' ist eines seiner frühen Wandbilder, mit dem er Bezug nimmt auf den nahegelegenen Spreekanal und die Sehnsucht der Berliner nach Wasser und Meer.
