Lindisfarne / Holy Island, Northumberland, England
I'm back! I've partly caught up on comments and commenting on others posted images but got more to go.
Well I can certainly say Northumbria was worth the trip even if the weather wasn't fantastic for photography. Having said that I did get some nice skies/light amongst the grey.
Saturday morning (if you can call 4am the morning! looked pretty grey as we 5 Togs plus Melvin loaded ourselves into his minibus and set off for Holy Island. We had to be on Holy Island by 05:55 if we wanted to get over the causeway which we duly did. We set up in the above location to shoot Lindisfarne Castle with little optimism of anything better than a moody sky shot.
However, as we approached sunrise some colour started to appear off to the left and as we watched it grew and grew. The gap in the cloud wasn't large but it certainly gave us a better sky than we were expecting.
I shot sets of 3 to bracket the images but due to movement of the boats I just went for the shorter shutter speed image and raised the shadows a bit. I made a duplicate layer and processed the ground and sky separately and then merged them. I wanted to just raise the exposure a little for the ground and castle.
Plenty more images to come but having the island pretty much to ourselves at that time of 'day' really was a lovely experience and the sunrise colours made it more so.
