Kalbarri Gorge

Sometimes you only have one moment—and you have to make it count.

Kalbarri National Park is carved by millions of years of history, known for its dramatic red and white banded sandstone gorges carved by the Murchison River. This was supposed to be a full 2-night photography expedition, but rolling clouds cut the trip short to barely half a night.

Despite the weather, it was an incredible experience just soaking in this ancient landscape and catching up with fellow photographers. This 12-frame panorama (4x3) was the very first shot on my list—and as it turned out, the only one I managed to fully capture before the sky closed in.

The night sky was glowing with a striking red and orange hue thanks to a strong airglow that night.

Safe to say, I’m already hoping to head back before winter ends. Once summer hits, this region gets brutally hot, and the flies and mozzies are completely unforgiving! 🔥

Have you ever had a weather forecast completely derail a photography trip?
