Pinnacles
Without a doubt, these are the most photographed pinnacles in the area — and for good reason. I shot this a few weeks back after heading out early to chase Comet Lemmon, which had just started showing itself in the Southern Hemisphere. Unfortunately, the western horizon was completely clouded out.
So I waited for the moon to set, then grabbed a few images. This is one of them.
In the sky you can spot the Carina constellation, the Gum Nebula, parts of Vela, and both Magellanic Clouds, all glowing through a dose of airglow.
And hey — great to see the drive track open again… makes life a whole lot easier when you’re hauling gear, snacks, and everything in between.
