0950 (ca.), [China, Xinjiang], Donor representation -- Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Berlin)
From the museum label: This (III 6876 a) is the best preserved and therefore most famous donor representation in Uyghur Buddhist art. The men are wearing the typical Uyghur headdress, their long black hair neatly braided. Their long red gowns have slits on the sides that reveal their black riding boots. A Chinese painting on silk, today in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, shows Uyghurs wearing this outfit while riding horses. They never completely gave up their nomadic lifestyle.
