SF X5936E SUPER C SUMMIT CA CAJON 5-72 ORG CROP V2

SF X5936E, the Super C, coming around the big curve at Cajon Pass Summit, CA before the line change at Summit on May 1972. The Super C was Santa Fe's fastest freight train ever schedule go from Los Angeles, CA to Chicago, Il in forty hours or less. The Super C was a difficult train to chase even when the train was going upgrade. In 1972 the normal 17 cars train was almost always power by three F45s or FP45s. At Christmas when the Super C would more that fifty cars with Christmas mail the train was powered by five F45s or FP45s and the train still was very fast. If you photographed the eastbound Super C at Highway 138 and then followed 138 up to Summit the Super C would get to Summit first.
