FIRE IN ENGINE ROOM.
During the afternoon of 19th. March 2020, a fire broke out in the engine room of DC Vlaanderen 3000 which had moored in the commercial port of Breskens at 1.50 p.m. after arriving coming from Zeebrugge, Belgium. The fire could was extinguished by the crew who flooded the engine room with CO2 and brought the situation under control. The deployment of the fire brigade was not necessary.
To be on the safe side, it was decided to leave the engine room closed until the morning of 20th. March when fire fighters from Breskens and Oostburg attended at around 08:00 a.m. so that the engine room could be opened in a controlled manner and, where necessary, remaining hot spots immediately extinguished. However there was no longer any fire. The entire ship had to be ventilated due to high CO2 values. In the early afternoon the firefighters were stood down.
