Cet insectivore se nourrit de petits invertébrés comme les limaces et les escargots, d’insectes tels que fourmis, courtilières, scarabées, grillons, sauterelles et mange également des serpents. Son long bec permet à cet oiseau fouisseur de capturer de nombreux vers et insectes dans le sol et les branches mortes, de casser la coquille des escargots et d’attraper ses proies en plein vol. C'est donc un ami du jardinier à protéger en évitant d'utiliser des insecticides.
This insectivore feeds on small invertebrates such as slugs and snails, insects like ants, mole crickets, beetles, crickets, and grasshoppers, and also eats snakes. Its long beak allows this burrowing bird to capture numerous worms and insects in the soil and dead branches, to break open snail shells, and to catch its prey in mid-air.
