At a stop on the way to Santiago from Habana, on top of the bus station in a town whose name I can't recall was written:
Morir por la Patria es vivir
or
To die for the homeland is to live
This I thought at first was some Communist bunkum, but it actually comes from Cuba's national anthem that dates back to the war of independence fought against Spain.
