Cleaning the timing chain
After cleaning out the channels, I cleaned old grease off the timing chain. I carefully rotate the chain by hand, then apply a q-tip to the front and rear of the part of the chain that's exposed. This needs to be done carefully to avoid slipping the chain off the turning cogs. There were chunks of grease encrusted fuzz on the timing chain. After getting the big gunk off with q tips, I wipe the rest on a diaper. The double lines on the cloth represent the residual grease on front and rear of different segments of the chain.
