South African Penguins at Mystic Aquarium
These cute little South African Penguins were shot at the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut. I came upon them on a kind of gray day when the sunlight had faded completely, but they started doing some sort of mating dance and kept making these parallel shapes--it was cool to watch! I shot this with a 70-300mm Nikkor Zoom (it's not an expensive lens, maybe $300) and shot a ton of photos. Thankfully when I was shooting it I had my monopod because I really needed something to steady that long lens (equivalent to a 450mm lens with the cropping factor when fully zoomed). I used a shot of them swimming (it's on Flickr) in my new book "Exposure Photo Workshop," but I didn't think this file was good enough and really couldn't find a use for it.
