1974 Ford Mustang II (1)

This is the only Mustang II I have seen in the U.K. in recent years. Although this generation of Mustang (1974-‘78) is usually largely overlooked by Mustang purists and scoffed at by fans, generally considered to be “the weakest” generation of the legendary ‘stang, these cars did sell incredibly well during a difficult time for domestic American cars - the “Malaise Era” unfortunately bringing in the end of the true muscle and pony car.
Ever since spotting this example in-person, I have come to really appreciate and respect the underappreciated Mustang II as a rather peculiar and quirky classic car. Granted, I much prefer the classic generation of 1964-’73 Mustangs, and the following “Fox” platform Mustangs, but I do dig the design and the backstory regarding the Mustang II. Advertised as “The Right Car At The Right Time”, the Mustang II did have a lot of thought put into designing it, sort of a return-to-form of the size of the original, compact 1964-’66 Mustang. Although a very healthy number of these cars were sold (over 1.1 million), these cars are now rare.
