Conductor Rail Gauging
The conductor rail is being measured for wear, measurements are taken on the head (top), foot (bottom) and web (middle). The measurements are then averaged out and if over a certain % of wear, then it would need to be replaced.
The conductor rails are long lasting, but I have seen severe wear and corrosion on newer installations. It is an aspiration to reuse the existing conductor rail as much as possible, which for a designer, can cause a headache, let alone for a person on the ground trying to put this together.
Fortunately, I had a (very) old hand, who could methodically actually do this in his sleep! His suggestions actually helped me with my designs and to make life easier for himself.
