Common Lungwort

Common Lungwort in the grounds of Pontefract castle,This plant would have been grown in the castle grounds for century's and was said to treat diseases of the Lungs. It would have been used in medieval medicine. The leaves apparently contain Silicic acid which is known to improve elasticity of the lungs and it seems the plant does have proven medical properties.

It also did very well to keep flowering through the last couple of weeks under the ice and snow.
