Manannán mac Lir's Milky Way.

Manannán mac Lir's Milky Way - Taken almost a year to the day from the image I shot in 2016. A slightly different viewpoint this time and the statue was lit by an approaching car.

The Milky Way rising above the hands of the Manannán mac Lir statue at the Gortmore viewing point on top of the Benevenagh Mountain.

Local tradition tells of the presence of a sea god in Lough Foyle and the widespread practice of making votive offerings to deities in Celtic times to Manannán mac Lir, who was regarded as the Irish Neptune.

The sculpture was created by John Darren Sutton.

A single image captured with a Canon 6D and Tamron 15-30mm F2.8 and processed in Lightroom 5.
