Priory Church of St Mary, Priory Street, Usk 15 October 2012

Odd that an uncle should erect a stone, perhaps he was a legal guardian. The ivy in the wreath on the trilobe device represents memory, immortality, friendship, fidelity, faithfulness, undying affection, eternal life; a wreath symbolises the triumph of redemption over death.

The church, with its Norman tower, was a priory for nuns built sometime during the period 1154-1170. Additions were made in the 13th and 15th Centuries. It was drastically reduced during the 16th Century Reformation and Dissolution of the monasteries.
