Templer Barracks Ashford 1971
The Intelligence Corps Depot moved from the wartime Maresfield Barracks, Uckfield, to Ashford in about 1968. Subsequently, in the 1990s, after their real estate was needed for the Channel Tunnel Terminal, they moved to the former RAF Chicksands base in Bedfordshire. This was taken during a visit to Templer Barracks by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. Because of this visit, Squad 36 lost their adventure training week, traditionally organised for all squads passing through training. We were allowed to paint the Corps yacht in Repton Manor instead though!
Across the square, the MT and indoor drill shed, behind, Repton Manor and to the right, the Sergeants’ Mess.
