Soviet War Memorial Parade, Tiergarten, Berlin, 1980s
This is a February or November parade (see below). In front is a Latvian built Rigas Autobusu Fabrika (RAF) minibus, then a VAI (Military Vehicle Inspectorate, or Military Traffic Police) Lada, followed by a line of Turist buses used to fetch over the chosen Soviets and their families.
The Soviets maintained a war memorial in West Berlin, at the Tiergarten, in the British Sector, just west of the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. It was built from masonry from the Reichskanzlerei, and marked the fallen Red Army soldiers who stormed the Reichstag. Three times a year, the Soviets held a military parade there - February, Red Army Day, May, Great Victory over Fascism, and November, the October Revolution.
