Men at work. Torfaen County Borough Council favours the messy and inefficient system of sorting out recyclable rubbish at the roadside. This puts their operators under pressure in all weathers, feeding the truck’s compartments from housholders’ boxes. This invariably results in litter left strewn across the road as harassed and often wet and cold operators strive to meet targets. It also means blocking narrow side streets as vehicles inch their way along.
Far better, the system where everything goes into a large bin, is emptied in bulk into the lorries and sorted out in warmth and comfort at the depot. I put this to TCBC several years ago, but they said their system is better?!
